How long will my Eyelash Extensions last?

Eyelash extensions are semi-permanent because the life cycle of a natural lash is typically two to three months, during which time it grows, remains "at rest," and then falls out. Once it falls out, it is replaced by the growth of a new lash. At any given moment, your lashes are at different stages in their life cycle, which is why touch-ups should be performed to maintain your desired look. If your hair and nails grow quickly then that means that your lashes will also be growing, shedding and renewing themselves quickly. You may find that your lashes may not last as long as someone with slow hair growth. Your lifestyle and the type of work you do will also have a bearing on how long they will last.

Lash extensions can be continued indefinitely as long as you'd like, and professionally removed at any time. Some clients have been wearing extensions consistently for several years!
 

What is the eyelash extension service procedure?

You will be comfortably reclined with your eyes closed during the entire procedure. Your bottom lashes will be protected with a firming under eye gel pad. Your technician will isolate each of your natural eyelashes and attach one synthetic eyelash with a tiny amount of medical grade adhesive, without touching your skin. The initial application generally totals a little under 100 minutes including your consultation, with each lash touch-up completed in as little as 60 minutes. It is completely painless, and so relaxing that most of our clients take a nap, then awaken to beautiful, fuller eyelashes. That's real beauty sleep!
 

Will I lose any of my own natural eyelashes?

As long as you do not pull your eyelash extensions or use products not recommended, you do not have to worry.
 

Are the extensions glued to my skin?

No, they are applied 1mm away from your eye lid to your natural lashes.
 

How do eyelash extensions feel?

When applied correctly, eyelash extensions look and feel as if they are your own lashes. Each lash is made of practically weightless synthetic fibers that are polished, sized, and curled for a natural look and feel.
 

Are eyelash extensions safe?

Yes. The eyelash extensions are applied with a surgical grade adhesive formulated with the same ingredient used in suture-less wound surgeries. The application is a safe, pain-free procedure that does not damage your eyes, eye-lids or lashes.
 

I pull out my own natural lashes, can I replace them with Individuals?

Individuals lash extensions need to be attached to your own natural lashes. The adhesive is formulated to attach to hair, therefore the glue will not adhere to your skin, only your natural lash. You will not be a good client for lash extensions since you pull out your lashes in patches or clumps. You may try an eyelash strip since they attach to the upper eyelid skin.
 

Can I use an eyelash curler to curl my individual lash extensions?

No, an eyelash curler will weaken and cause them to lift and come off.
 

Can I wear mascara?

Yes, but we recommend you use mascara formulated for extensions. Mascara will also shorten the life of your lash extensions. We suggest you try to avoid mascara.
 

Can I still wear I makeup?

Yes, but you don't need mascara and you may find that you won't need eyeliner. You may still use eyeliner or eye shadow, but remember to clean remove with a product that does not contain oil of any kind as this will affect the glue. Lash Out! carries after care products that will help extend the life of your individual lash extensions.
 

Will you provide me with aftercare instructions?

Yes, all clients receive aftercare instruction cards after each visit.
 

How long and thick will they make my lashes?

On average, the extensions can make your lashes anywhere from 20% to 50% longer than your own lashes. However, the longer, the thicker, and more dramatic a curl we use the more likely your eyelash extensions will twist and turn. For optimal results it is suggested to use a natural length, thickness, and curl.
 

What do I have to do to keep them up?

Although some people get eyelash extensions for a special occasion or vacation, most love the look so much, that they want to maintain it.
 

How soon before an event should I have them done?

We suggest 1 week or more before that special event or vacation.
 

I sleep on my stomach. Will this affect my lashes?

If you sleep on your stomach, sleep with a pillow or blanket over your head, cover your eyes with sleeping mask, the longevity of your lashes will be greatly diminished. Side sleepers will notice that the eye that is on the side they sleep on will lose lashes a bit more than the side that is up. Can I still use lash growth serums or lash medications with my extensions?

Yes, we love Lashfood Eyelash Conditioner – It's all natural with herb extracts and it is safe to use with lash extensions as well. You will see longer and thicker lashes in as little as two weeks. Lashfood Sensitive user conditioner is safe for eyebrows as well.
 

Can I get eyelash extensions if my lashes are tinted or dyed?

Yes, it is safe to receive eyelash extensions on tinted or dyed eyelashes. However, it is not recommended to tint, dye, or perm lashes after having the eyelash extensions applied. Do not perm lashes before service.
 

How do I prepare for the service?

You should thoroughly clean your lashes with a mild cleanser. Use an oil-free makeup remover to clean your lashes prior to the application. If you regularly wear false lashes or waterproof mascara spend extra time cleaning lashes before service. Avoid caffeinated beverages or medications that will cause you to feel jittery. As the service is approximately 2 hours long, you can bring your iPod to listen to during the procedure.
 

How do you remove lash extensions?

Please do not attempt to remove them yourself as you may damage your natural lashes. Come in and let us professionally remove them with a special formulated remover. Or, let the eyelash extensions slowly fall out by themselves.

Aftercare for your new lashes

We at Lash Out! meticulously apply each set of eyelash extensions as if we were applying them to our own eyes. You can expect healthy, safe, beautiful and long-lasting results from your very first application. Extend your extension life- familiarize yourself with a few key points and techniques to help maintain the longevity of your new lashes.
 

• Keep your new lashes dry for the first 12-24 hours. Try bathing instead of showering, a wash cloth for your face, and try to avoid facial products or services while your new lashes are curing.

• Full lash sets typically do not need mascara, however, should you choose to apply mascara, try extension-friendly, easy rinse mascara on only the tips of the lashes. Waterproof mascara is a no-no!

• Lash extensions come pre-curled, but should you need a boost, use only a lash curling wand, rather than a traditional lash crimper. Traditional crimpers are not good for your natural lashes, let alone for extensions.

• Adverse products, especially oil-based makeup removers and/or products containing glycols or solvents will generally weaken the bond of the lashes. Avoid facial cleansers, serums, moisturizers, and creams from your brow bone to your lash extensions.

• Use caution when exposing your face and lashes to extreme elements such as heat, flames, and wind. This especially applies to baking/BBQing and certain sports and activities. Try protective goggles or sunglasses, and sweatbands when applicable.

• If your new lashes are getting caught by mascara on your lower lashes, simply brush the extension in a smooth, upward motion with your finger.

• Eyelash extensions are applied to your natural lashes on a one-by-one basis. This allows your own lashes to continue to grow and shed naturally. It is normal to lose 1-3 lashes a day per your own hair growth patterns. This also means the extensions will sometimes turn, such as after sleeping or showering. This is natural and can be adjusted by gently repositioning the extension with your finger or extension-safe brush. Contact Lash Out! if you notice excessive shedding.

• Do not tug, pull, flip, pick or otherwise "play with" your lashes.

• DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CUT OR REMOVE THE EXTENSIONS YOURSELF. IF you need your extensions removed, shortened, or adjusted in ANY way, please contact your Lash Out! immediately.

• All of the above are demonstrated to you at your initial service appointment. Love your lashes like everyone else will! Clean, condition, protect them responsibly by using the Lashfresh product line. Be good to your lashes and they will be good to you! Nine out of ten lash emergencies can be quickly and easily corrected.

 

Other Eyelash Enhancement Options vs Eyelash Extensions

 

Mascaras

Often thought of as the most convenient and user friendly of options to enhance eyelashes, mascaras do have some downfalls:

• Overuse of mascara can cause dryness which in turn can lead to the possibility of lashes falling out.

• Some mascara formulations have ingredients that may cause allergic reactions.

• Wearing mascara is not always a practical option such as while swimming or going to the gym.

• Many types of mascara are difficult to remove and create black smudges below the lower lash line. Removing mascara can damage the delicate skin under the eye because the process often requires rubbing or swiping to remove the product completely.

• If mascara is not completely and thoroughly removed along the lash line the remaining remnants can clog the hair follicles and prevent future lash growth.

• Visually, the effect is often not as dramatic as clients are hoping for with mascara. It's important to note that the models used in mascara promotional campaigns are all wearing false lashes, a look which no mascara alone can replicate.
   

Mechanical Curlers

Curling your eyelashes is typically one of the quickest ways to get instant uplift. These popular devices raise several concerns worth noting:

• Skin can easily get caught in the clamping device, causing pain, pinching or tugging on the eyelid.

• The use of mechanical eyelash curlers can damage the lashes, potentially leaving them broken or distorted.

• Repeated breakage caused by the use of mechanical curlers can actually permanently stunt the growth of lashes.
   

False Strip Lashes

Traditional false lashes are made up of numerous human or synthetic eyelashes attached together in one pre-made strip. A full set is placed (via a special adhesive applied to the strip of false eyelashes) against your upper lash line on the skin, as close as possible to your actual lashes, but not on your real lashes (which, indeed, is as tricky to do as it sounds).

Readily available and often used by makeup artists for their dramatic effect, there are many disadvantages associated with the wearing of strip lashes:
 

• Visually, false lash strips tend to look, well… false. They are often glaringly phony and stiff in appearance, proclaiming to all that that the wearer's lashes are, quite obviously, not real.

• The temporary adhesive used can come loose due to perspiration from heat, exercising, dancing or doing any strenuous activity, creating a potentially embarrassing situation.

• The weight of an entire strip of lashes added to the eye can feel heavy and weary the lid.

• False lash adhesive, which is attached directly to the skin, is difficult to remove and can irritate the eye and tear ducts during both application and removal.

• Contact lens wearers should avoid strip lashes as the temporary adhesive used will destroy their lenses should it come in contact with them at any time.

• Because the adhesive is applied to the skin, there is the possibility of an allergic reaction and an increased risk of infection.

• If used frequently strip lashes can cause irreparable damage to the natural lashes and cause them to fall out prematurely.

• Long-term use can lead to permanent lash baldness caused by hair follicle blockage or even infections.

• Clients should never sleep in false eyelashes as there is a danger that the glands in your eyelids may become blocked and cause an infection.

• Because they cannot be worn while sleeping, false lashes must be removed and reapplied each day.

• Removing false eyelashes must be done very carefully. Natural lashes can be pulled out by the root along with the false strip during removal. Repeatedly pulling the same lashes out by the root can eventually prevent their re-growth permanently.

 

Flares or Lash Clusters

Cluster lashes, or flares, typically consist of groups of 5-8 blunt-end lashes knotted together in a bunch. These clusters add instant fullness because of their multi-lash flare and they tend to be smaller and shorter than strips. They can be applied either directly to the skin (between natural lashes) or on top of a grouping of existing lashes. They are more natural in appearance than strips however they do carry many of the same concerns (the same skin adhesives are used when attaching to the eyelid) as well as a few additional ones:
 

• If you look closely you can see how flares and individual (see below) lashes are not tapered but are blunt at the end. This creates a stiff, abnormal appearance to the lashes.

• Lash clusters that are adhered to the natural lashes need to be placed on top of several natural lashes at once because their large size and weight cannot be supported by a single lash.

• Natural lashes grow at different rates. When they are glued together to support flares and left in place for a period of time, the flares will cause faster growing natural lashes to prematurely pull out slower growing lashes from the root because they are adhered together. This can result in permanent damage and lash baldness if done repeatedly.

• If flares are attached to the skin, the adhesives can damage the follicle, irritate the eye and increase the risk of infections.? <liWhen applied to the skin, cluster eyelashes will last no more than a week at most.

 

Eyelash Extension Misconceptions

Questions have been raised on occasion in the media regarding the effects of eyelash extensions on natural lashes. Unfortunately many of the reports have not included complete facts and in depth information.

PROPERLY APPLIED eyelash extensions do not cause damage to natural lashes. Situations where damage has or can be done to the natural lashes are typically caused by one of the following unfortunate scenarios:
 

1. UNQUALIFIED professionals applying semi-permanent eyelash extensions. Lash Out! believes it is irresponsible to sell eyelash extension products without requiring training. The application process, which requires the use of a strong bonding and long lasting adhesive and sharp tweezers near the eye area, is very meticulous. Only under the supervision of a well qualified Certified Trainer can a student learn how to properly position their hands, pick up the lash extension, isolate a single natural lash, and apply the lash extension safely and beautifully. In fact, a qualified trainer is trained to work with each individual's specific needs to help him or her overcome weaknesses and utilize strengths. Even proper posture and table height is assessed.
   
   Our trained Lash Stylists often see the work of an unqualified professional first hand and must repair the damage that has been done to the client. Below is an example of lashes applied by an untrained technician before and after being corrected.
    

2. CHEAP WORK. Everyone wants a discount and yes, you can get your lashes done for $100 or $150 for a full set. But would you really want to? At this price, technicians have to speed through the procedure to maximize their time. This leads to poor quality work or short cuts.
    

3. FLARES AND 'INDIVIDUAL' LASHES applied as shortcuts. Flares, Clusters and 'Individuals' consist of attached groups of 3-8 blunt-end lashes, often with a knot at the end. These types of lash enhancements are designed to be applied to the skin using temporary lash adhesive for short term wearing. It has become known that some technicians are taking these lash groups and using a semi-permanent eyelash extension adhesive to adhere flares and individuals directly to natural lashes. Of course applying lashes in bundles like this will take significantly less time to apply to achieve a full look than a single lash by lash application; however this is an unhealthy method for natural lashes. These bundled lashes are far too heavy for a single natural lash to support. If applied to one natural lash they can break the natural lash and inhibit future re-growth. Alternately, if they are applied to multiple natural lashes to properly support their heavy weight, multiple natural lashes will be adhered together. Since natural lashes grow at different rates the flares will cause faster growing natural lashes to prematurely pull out slower growing lashes from the root because they are bonded together. This can result in permanent damage and lash baldness if done repeatedly.
    

4. CARELESS ADHESION - leading to 3-4 human lashes being clumped together. Again, this comes down to training and quality. Lashes applied properly should be adhered one by one. One small synthetic lash is attached to one natural lash. If several natural lashes are adhered together because the technician has not been trained to isolate a single natural lash or is being too quick or too careless to do so, it can cause pain and, in the end, damage to the natural lashes. The pain will be felt a day or two after application as a faster growing natural lash begins to pull out a slower growing natural lash it is adhered to. While not significant pain (it can be equated to that of a small pin pricking sensation along the lash line) it is a sign that something is not correct with the application. Properly applied eyelash extensions should be seen but not felt. There should be no discomfort during or after application. Both of the examples demonstrated in the photos above show the effect of many lashes being adhered together however it can be much more subtle in appearance than these pictures show. Two single lashes adhered together may not be initially visible to you but a good technician will notice. A trained professional will not only isolate a single lash as they apply but constantly check throughout the application to ensure that no lashes are adhering together as they dry.

Please keep in mind!

A bad lash job can be painful, damage your eyes and lashes, and be downright UGLY! There are a dozen combinations of "bad lash" application techniques but only one proper way to apply eyelash extensions. Slow speed, poking, pulling, failure to separate lashes, too much/too little adhesive are all signs of an inexperienced technician!

Do your homework, research, compare, and trust your eyes and face only to professionally certified, skilled, experienced and insured technician!
 

Healthy eyes and lashes are among our top priorities:
 

• Each pair of application forceps is sterilized at over 450º F prior to each application, destroying any potentially harmful organisms.

• No double dipping- disposable applicators and containers are used only once for each product used during service. This prevents person-to-person contamination.

• CLEAN towels are placed under your head while laying down and are changed between each client.

• Hands are washed between each application. Hand sanitizer is also used before touching implements or your face or eye area.

• We use lint-free, soothing gel eye pads for your comfort and protection during service. We do NOT use tape or cut other corners as a cheaper substitute! This may sound silly or redundant, but most places do NOT do this!
